Club Members Klaxon - New Releases Part 1!
We have four brand new things coming out good people! The first two are a collaborative project with the legends Deya while the other two (see next post) are our latest hopped ciderkin – bang in time for summer – and our first ever Somerset Redstreak!
We’ve long been fans of Deya in Cheltenham and their unique beers. Their use of hops is so beautifully executed that even their most hop-forward beers are imminently and dangerous crushable. Ally that to a mouthfeel so consistently soft, fresh and elegant, you have a combination of perfection that is basically unbeatable.
Under the direction of Toby Munn, their barrel programme has been expanding both in size and endeavour. We got lucky when Toby came to visit, tasted a few things and decided to experiment. We gave him pomace from the pressing of Perry pears, Quince and Dabinett apples. Cider Review Adam helped us shepherd the pomace out to the Deya van, and Toby took over from there, creating two beers that are simply amongst the best our tastebuds have ever encountered!
Both beers have the same base, Toby describes it as “a simple beer, brewed with wheat, fermented with a mixed culture of yeast and bacteria then aged in oak for one year, and then refermented on pomace for four weeks.”
The big differences come from the pomace on which the beers were refermented and honestly, the differences could not be more distinct or joyous!
*Deya Blend 5, #1 – Quince & Perry Pears
Pours a beautiful, bright, pale yellow. The aromatics, all rose and sweet pears, are crazily good. The palate is a soft, intriguing blend of creamy pears and citrus tropicality that harmonise beautifully with the ale. 6.7% abv
*Deya Blend 5, # 2 – Dabinett Apples
It’s neither wild nor sour. It’s soft and elegant as you’d expect, fresh and moreish with aromas of red berries and red apples, delicately structured, gentle in acid, with sweet bright fruit and a just a tiny hint of tannin on an expansive finish. 6.7% abv
Hitting the Decks at Midday
We have a tiny allocation of these 75cl bottles, going live in the members section of our website midday today, 24 July. Limited to ONE per Club member and on a first come first serve basis. Even then there won’t be enough to go around, we're really sorry, but hopefully there might be a chance for future collabs…
Any remaining bottles will go on general release with us on midday Monday, but do head to Deya's website too and your normal sources for their gems.
