Dead Flowers Makes Its Debut
Dead Flowers 2018, our latest release, has landed.
Apples, like many great things, come from dead flowers.
This cider is the end of a project that began with Root & Branch (our live keg conditioned cider), developed into Enter the Dragon, and ends with this eloquent number.
Bottled still, unfiltered and with no SO2, Dead Flowers is a blend of Dabinetts from Dragon Orchard, fermented under different yeast regimes and aged in a beautiful Buffalo Trace Bourbon barrel for seven months. It’s a cider quite unlike any we have made before, pretty much unlike any cider we’ve ever tasted so describing it is not easy.
It glows orange/amber in the glass and the whole thing is really a study in orange. There’s the ripe tanginess, the blossom, the pith and oil from the rind. There are also candied and burnt orange notes but it ducks in and out of apricot and peach too. Then comes the spice – clove oil, vanilla, sandalwood – before the soft wash of tannins – think fine black tea – kicks in at the finish. It’s a thrilling ride and if, like us you’re a fan of skin contact white wines or Lambic beer styles, you’ll simply love this.
