"to the women who get shit done"
Wander, the delightfully contemporary neighbourhood restaurant in Stoke Newington, is celebrating International Women's Day with not a day's worth of activities, not a week, but a month. In typically dynamic fashion, chef/owner Alexis Noble is championing over a dozen female-owned and led small businesses with her Wander Women Week(s).
A series of Wander at Home menus are being prepared at five locations, from London to Liverpool. And the booze gets equal attention. Wine at Wander carries ciders from three women-influenced producers alongside well chosen wine selections, including a number Alexis imports from her native Australia.
Three cider regions feature and we at Little Pomona are delighted to represent Herefordshire. We join Becky at Wilding just south of Bristol, while Polly at Find & Foster brings Devon to the fore.
So, if you fancy tempting or treating yourself with some of Alexis' beautifully flavourful dishes - a Banquet Kit where Wander teams up with Sambal Shiok perhaps, or the Mother's Day Brunch Box with Freddie Janssen's Snackbar - check out the beautiful options on Alexis' site.
Alexis says this year's series of events is an ode "to the women that get shit done". In 2021 she wants to focus on "all the female small business owners who have been a constant source of support and inspiration throughout this past year", she says. She plans to celebrate women "in all facets of the industry - who have worked hard, been super creative and hustled so that their business can survive."
Alexis has another motivation too: that of inspiring other women to continue their careers in hospitality, or to take the leap and join in. With someone like her at the helm, her quest has a good start.
